The IEEE Workshop on Computer-Aided Modeling, Design and Analysis of Communication Links
and Networks (CAMAD) is an international forum for the dissemination of recent advances in modeling
and simulation of communication systems. The 7th workshop (CAMAD'98) will be held in the city of
São Paulo, Brazil. It is the first time that a country in the Southern Hemisphere will host this workshop.
CAMAD'98 is co-sponsored by the Communications Systems Integration and Modeling Technical Com-
mittee (CSIM TC) of the IEEE Communications Society and by the Institute of Computing, State Univer-
sity of Campinas (IC-UNICAMP), Campinas, Brazil.

CAMAD'98 received twenty-eight papers from nine different countries, such as: Australia (2),
Brazil (10), France (1), Germany (1), Greece (2), Italy (2), Japan (1), the Netherlands (1) Spain (1),
Republic of Macedonia (1), and U.S.A. (6). Papers were reviewed by the Technical Committee which
included three former CAMAD chairmen. After a careful review process, twelve papers were accepted.
In addition to its technical sessions, CAMAD'98 will have three invited speakers: Dr. Mike Devetsikiotis
(Canada), Dr. Debasis Mitra (U.S.A.) and Dr. Edmundo Sousa e Silva (Brazil).

CAMAD'98 would not be possible without the effort of several enthusiastic individuals. Dr. Guy
Omydiar (chairman of CSIM TC) and Dr. Tomasz Kowaltowski (Director of IC-UNICAMP) uncondi-
tionally supported the organization of CAMAD'98. IEEE International Telecommunications Sympo-
sium'98 (ITS'98) co-chairmen kindly welcomed CAMAD'98 in ITS'98 tech]nical program. The technical
committee outstanding work was of paramount importance for shaping a high-quality program. The orga-
nizing committee's friendly helped the management of several details in CAMAD'98 preparation. More-
over, the generosity of CAMAD'98 Patrons made the workshop possible. Last but not least, all authors
who submitted their papers to CAMAD'98 greatly contributed to the success of this world-class event.

Welcome to São Paulo and to CAMAD'98!
